Have you ever seen those beautiful, snow white but aggressive wild animals living in the deserted snowy areas? If not for real, you might have seen them at least on the television once (on Discovery channel for example). But the sad thing is, there are not many of them left. Due to the changes in climate and global warming to hunting, they have reduced in number.

Impacts of Global Warming on polar bears

Global warming has been on the priority list of environmentalists for a long time now. But, they were unable to garner the required support because most of the changes occurring due to global warming were either away from the public eye or too mild to attract attention. But, now they have an issue that can serve as an eye-opener, though a delayed one. Polar bears, those huge mammals with white fur who roam about on the white sheets of ice on the poles, have been declared to get into the endangered species list in a spam of about 45 years from now, all because of global warming.

The rise in temperatures around the globe has caused serious melting of ice at the poles, which happens to be the habitat of polar bears. With shrinking living area, polar bears have started living a precarious life and a number of such bears are prone to die because of the difficult life style imposed on them due to global warming. To add to the difficulties, the habitat of the polar bears is difficult to create artificially and hence, we cannot help preserve the species like we can do it with others.

Polar bears can swim a lot and have great stamina. Hence, they are used to go far away looking for food and then swim to the blocks of ice to rest. With melting ice, the gap between the ice blocks keeps increasing and hence, polar bears are prone to exhaust themselves by swimming unexpectedly long distances. This increases their chances of drowning or dying of exhaustion. Also, global warming has reduced the availability of food for these bears and this has added to their worries.

Fighting the Impacts of Global Warming on polar bears

To save polar bears, we need to take steps to reduce global warming and restrict the oil exploration in the Arctic. But, the Bush administration is against the restriction of oil activities in the Arctic and it is imperative that environmentalists will have to find out other ways to doing the job. WWF has predicted that about 2/3rd of the current population of polar bears will be finished by 2050 and this itself is reason enough to press the panic button and take some real steps if we want to keep seeing those big white bears around.

Global warming is a very dangerous menace to wild life. The future of the wild life is in danger due to global warming. Global warming can also lead to extinction of certain species of animals and birds.

How are animals affected by global warming?

Due to global warming the ice in Arctic is melting, the desert area is growing and the sea temperature is also rising. The rise in sea temperature affects the sex of turtles. Some of the turtle species can become just females as the rise in temperature in the sea affects the sex ratio of turtles and thus male turtles are one of the endangered species. As a result of global warming, many of the birds and animals have changed their route of migration. Many of the species are adapting the new climatic conditions by just moving towards poles but this option is not available to all the animals or birds. Seals and polar bears are the endangered species as their habitat is slowly disappearing due to melting of ice. Changes in sea temperature are causing depletion of the organism known as tiny plankton which is the base of oceans food web.

Global warming can be cause for extinction of thousands of species that are struggling to survive. It is difficult for the species to adapt the climatic changes in such less time as these species have taken hundreds of years for adapting to the climate. Global warming is also responsible for change in events of natural cycle of wild life. Many species have changed their reproduction cycle which is affecting the population of species which has lowered the number of new born and leading to death of already alive species. Polar bears, Coral reefers, Trout, Migratory songbirds, penguins, salmon, toads, seals, reindeer, Gray wolves, arctic foxes, and turtles are few the species which have experienced the worst effects of global warming. These species are hard hit by the climatic changes taking place due to global warming.

Is there any scope for these animals?

There is scope that the species might adapt to the climatic conditions but what about the solution to the animals that swim or fly or walk miles. Earth is getting warmer and warmer day by day and humans are responsible to this by one or another way. Many of the humans argue to the statements of scientist when they speak about global warming but the wildlife is giving us the proof of global warming and its ill effects. It is the duty of the concerned governments to protect the various species under their territory. If they are not given proper protection, we may have to see the worse happening to these innocent creatures.

Diseases like malaria, diarrhea and dengue are common in poor and undeveloped countries and are more prone to bad health effects of global warming. Africa is one such county about which researchers are worried about. Health effects of global warming can escalate to such terrible levels that it may be very difficult to bring the situation under control.

Possible solutions

It’s the responsibility of each and every person on this Earth to work towards reducing global warming and save this planet from deadly consequences and ill health effects. Countries which are top in green house gases emission must take immediate steps reduce global warming.

Global warming is nothing but increase in temperature due to emission of gases like nitrogen, methane, etc which is released due to green house effect. Green house is small house like structure which absorbs light from the sun but at the same time releases heat. Trees help in releasing oxygen which is required by human beings and simultaneously absorb CO2 which is harmful for human beings. It also spreads a lot of diseases such as plague and malaria which are spread due to infectious disease carrying insects. Global warming may also lead to drying of land which leads to severe droughts. For example Africa is facing a serious drought problem. Economic and financial properties get damage due to droughts, hurricanes and floods. Global warming adversely affects animals, because of which 40% of the species are almost disappeared. Most of the polar bears and whales, sharks, penguins, frogs, walrus, arctic fox, have been starved to death. Most of the bird species have become extinct. Global warming lead to melting of green belt and also the amount of ice in Acrtic Ocean has been gradually decreased. Number of glaciers has dropped down in last 25 years. Most of the lakes have almost vanished for example: - glacial lake in Chile has almost disappeared. Global warming has adversely affected human health. People are dying due to heart attacks and smog, asthmas and allergies. Global migration may lead to increase in number of refugees and migrations.
